This is an office-based position.

Responsibilities

The Experienced Scrum Master leads the application of Scrum practices across one to multiple teams, ensuring adherence to Agile principles and fostering a collaborative, self-organizing environment. Encourages meaningful participation and drives clarity in outcomes. The Experienced Scrum Master works to improve team performance, resolves conflicts and fosters an environment conducive to continuous improvement.

  • Facilitate Scrum Events:
    • Independently schedules and facilitates Scrum events across one to multiple teams, ensuring they are productive, positive, time-boxed, and focused on achieving the team’s goals.
    • Lead the team in ensuring Scrum ceremonies are meaningful and result-oriented.
  • Coaching and Mentoring:
    • Coach team members in applying Agile principles and Scrum practices, 
      encouraging self-organization/management, fostering a collaborative mindset, and helping individuals grow in their Scrum knowledge. Actively mentor less experienced Scrum Masters and team members providing feedback and supporting their development.
  • Removing Impediments:
    • Proactively identify and remove obstacles that hinder the team’s progress, working to maintain a smooth flow of work.
  • Support the Product Owner:
    • Assist the Product Owner in managing and prioritizing the product backlog, 
      ensuring prioritized tasks align with project goals and are clearly defined for the team. 
  • Facilitate Communication and Collaboration:
    • Foster open communication and collaboration within the team and across teams, encouraging cooperation between stakeholders and promoting transparency. 
  • Promote Continuous Improvement:
    • Use team metrics, retrospectives, and feedback to identify opportunities for process improvements. Support the team in implementing these improvements while tracking their effectiveness.
  • Protect the Team:
    • Shield the team from external disruptions and distractions, helping them maintain focus on their Sprint goals, creating high-value "Increments" that meet the "Definition of Done".
  • Stakeholder Management:
    • Support the Product Owner in ensuring the team is aligned with project priorities facilitating communication to stakeholders, and keeping them informed of progress.
  • Support Agile Transformation:
    • Assist in the adoption and continuous improvement of Agile practices, supporting teams as they evolve in their Agile maturity.
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Technical Competencies 

  • SDLC Knowledge:
    • Working knowledge of the software development lifecycle, including how Agile practices interact with different development phases.
  • Scrum Knowledge:
    • Working knowledge of Scrum practices, roles, and ceremonies, and ability to facilitate these events effectively. Experience participating in or facilitating Scrum events such as Sprint Planning, Daily Standups, Sprint Reviews, and Retrospectives.
  • Communication Skills:
    • Ability to facilitate open and effective communication with the team and between team members and stakeholders encouraging collaboration and transparency to resolve issues and foster a cohesive team environment.
  • Conflict Resolution:
    • Ability to address interpersonal or process conflicts within the team, facilitating productive discussions that lead to resolutions and improved team dynamics. Experience in resolving team-level impediments and working with the Product Owner to refine or manage the product backlog.
  • Stakeholder Management:
    • Effective communication and collaboration with stakeholders, ensuring that team goals and priorities are aligned with business objectives.
  • Collaboration Tools:
    • Proficient with tools for backlog management, metrics tracking, and communication, such as Jira, Confluence, or similar.
  • Agile Knowledge:
    • Working knowledge of Agile Principles and Scrum framework.
  • Impediment Removal:
    • Proactively identifies and removes team-level obstacles, with some experience resolving complex issues.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Uses metrics and retrospectives to analyze team performance and drive improvements in Scrum practices, team dynamics, and project delivery.
  • Coaching and Mentoring Skills:
    • Capable of coaching team members in Agile principles and Scrum practices, fostering self-organization and continuous improvement within the team.
  • Proficient in independently managing time and workload to meet team and sprint commitments, while balancing multiple priorities.
