Responsibilities

The Principal Technical Business Analyst leads the analysis and oversight of large-scale projects, ensuring that technical solutions align with business strategies and long-term objectives. This role involves collaborating with senior leadership to drive technology strategies and improve business outcomes. The Principal TBA is seen as a technical authority and thought leader within the organization. Typically, individuals in this role are seen as an advanced technical expert, possessing extensive knowledge of enterprise architecture and technical strategy.

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Requirements Gathering: Oversee the technical business analysis for large-scale, enterprise-level projects and systems.
  • Solution Design & Implementation: Provide technical expertise and guidance in the design and architecture of complex systems. Drive innovation by identifying emerging technologies and their applications in business processes.
  • Leadership & Mentorship: Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) on technical solutions and business transformation initiatives.
  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Management: Lead cross-functional teams in the development and implementation of major projects. Collaborate with senior leadership to shape technical roadmaps and business strategies.
  • Documentation: Ensure alignment between technical solutions and long-term business strategies.

Technical Competencies

  • Technical Roadmap & Innovation: Responsible for developing and guiding the technical roadmap, ensuring that technological advancements align with the organization’s strategic goals.
  • Cross-Functional Technical Leadership: Leads large-scale technical projects across multiple departments, aligning technical solutions with long-term business goals. Collaborates closely with senior developers, architects, and product managers.
  • Enterprise Architecture Expertise: Mastery of enterprise architecture principles, with the ability to influence architecture decisions that impact the entire organization’s IT landscape. In-depth knowledge of microservices, cloud-based systems, and distributed architectures.
  • Strategic Data Management: Expertise in data governance, data warehousing, and advanced analytics (e.g., machine learning, AI integration) to drive data-driven decision-making.
  • Change Management: Proficiency in change management practices to drive adoption of new processes and technologies.
  • Emerging Technology Knowledge: Advanced knowledge of emerging technologies (e.g., blockchain, IoT, AI/ML) and their potential impact on the organization’s systems and processes.
  • Risk & Compliance Leadership: Deep understanding of technical risk management, cybersecurity, compliance, and regulatory standards, ensuring that all technical solutions meet security and legal requirements.
  • Problem Solving Skills: Highly advanced and innovative problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

  • Typically requires 10+ years of experience in business analysis, with significant experience in enterprise-level projects.
  • Deep understanding of large-scale system implementations, cloud-based technologies, and technical innovation.
  • Mastery of enterprise architecture, technical solutions, and integration strategies.
  • Strong knowledge of emerging technologies (e.g., AI, machine learning, cloud computing) and how they apply to business solutions.
  • Expertise in designing and documenting large-scale, complex technical solutions.
  • Strong financial and business acumen to evaluate the cost-benefit of technical solutions.
